hi i want to achieve the functionality as shown in these sites

DigiMantra- here all the recent posts are arranged in a grid like fashion with an icon and some text. This happens on the main page, and if you open a category like Category Page it shows each post with the thumbnail and at the bottom a pagination appears. it is a wordpress blog and i can hack it from a theme if i get one. So can any one suggest me a theme or a plugin or method or tutorial as how can achieve such functionality? Thanks

WordPress is incredibly easy to use. The grid view is just using css floats. An easy way to figure out how a website is built structurally and visually is using a Firefox extension called Firebug. You can open it and "Inspect" elements just by clicking on them, and all their CSS properties are shown to you. It's a great tool.

The "loop" that creates the WordPress posts in this way would be something like this (give or take the variables that you feed to WordPress):

<?php
if (have_posts()) :
    while (have_posts()) :
        the_post();
?>
<div class="post">
    <h2 class="headline"><a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>
    <div>posted on <?php the_date('l, F j, Y'); ?></div>
    <div class="thumb">
        <a href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>"><?php /* some method of getting the thumbnail of an attached image */ ?></a>
    </div>
    <p><?php the_excerpt(); ?></p>
    <a class="readmore" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>">Read more</a>
</div>
<?php
    endwhile;
endif;
?>

The pagination at the bottom is generated by Wordpress, (or a simple plugin) and styled with CSS.

Unfortunately I'm not the guy that points you to any theme or plugins; someone else on Doctype can help you with that, or Google.

Hope this helps.
