Hi. I am looking into which type of search database to set up on my site. It is a pretty big site which features Wordpress / YaBB forum which is developed on Perl and the rest of the site is X/HTML and Javascript. My server is Apache and runs on mySQL. I kindda think that PHP is the clear winner but wished to ask for other opinions before starting this.

So what would you go with and why?.

Thanks

You should be probably better off asking this kind of questions on www.stackoverflow.com since it's a development question.

But since your database is MySQL I'd check out sphinx, because you can quite easily and transparently intergate it into your existing DB without the need of using any libraries in your PHP code. All you'd have to do is to form correct queries against your database.

I've used it in the past and I must say it's a very fast full text search engine. And I particularly liked its integration into MySQL...

Thanks for letting me know about Sphinx. This really seems like such a viable option. I will ask also on Stackoverflow for further suggestions before I get started on it.
