I've been designing and developing for a bit over a year now, and I feel my most glaring weakness is my UI knowledge.

And I'd love to hit the books.

Is there a seminal work out there on web user interface? Similar to Bringhurst's Elements of Typographic Style, but for UI?

I think this is worth adding to your library:

Defensive Design for the Web

and then there's this:

http://webstyleguide.com/wsg3/index.html

online, but dead tree version available.

I'd say Don't Make Me Think is one everyone should read.
