So, I haven't done any web design in about 4-5 years, since i've joined the military. At the time, I was using tables do align most of my content, and just breaking into using CSS. Since then, i've fallen far out of the loop of web design (but still do web development through PHP and things of the nature).

I'm looking for a site that will give me a thorough introduction and tutorial into current methods of designing a layout, particularly using CSS 2/3, cross-browser compatibility, and have examples of what needs to be done.

Does anyone have any recommendations?
