Hi can anybody tell me or point me to right direction on how to create memorable logo, by memorable I mean plain and simple like doctype or stack overflow logo.

I'm having problems with picking the right font and icon for my website I mean I'm a developer and I'm required to create a logo(its a nonsense) but I still have to do it.

Can someone help me? Thank you

Think of the product/service the website relates to and think about the images that immediately spring to mind. Trying creating/purchasing something like that and then play around with fonts and colours by it. Even common fonts can look nice with some basic styles applied (drop shadow, gradient overlay etc. - not that they're required) and a nice colour scheme. Try creating numberous copies of your company/product name in Photoshop (or similar) and put each instance in a different font to see which you prefer. logopond.com is a great source of inspiration, with logos of varying complexity.

If you do not have a budget in which to have somebody who has design experience, then start looking at things from, say, iStock Photo - look through their vector art and see if you can find something that will work with what you are doing. Going this route is like $10 - $20. Or you could even use some of the designs there as inspiration to whatever you eventually end up creating.

You could also commission a designer through a site such as 99 Designs, probably something between $250 and $500 for a 1/2 way decent logo. In fact that is how Stack Overflow got their logos started.

If this is a consumer focused application, with paying customers. It is definitely worth paying a little money to get some design work done.
