Here is the problem, I created an HTML page as shown.

And I expected the buttons and textarea to be at the same level, however the text appears to be one level above the other two controls. Why is that?

I can think of some ways of handling that situation using div and absolute positioning or tables(evil, I know) but, my question is why does css have to hate me?

This solved it for me.

 <button style="width: 7em;height: 5em; top: 0;vertical-align: top;">AB</button>
 <textarea rows="5"></textarea>
 <button style="width: 7em;height: 5em; top: 0;vertical-align: top;">BC</button>
