I'm looking for a nice and simple online service/application? I doesn't need to be advanced.

Requirements:

  • Easy to link to (through some kind of auth - preferably not public)
  • Possibility to create a little more dynamic flows than Child/Parent-relationship

Is there one out there?

xml-sitemaps.com seem quite flexible and alow you to automatically generate a sitemap in XML format for submitting to search engines, as well as a HTML version for human visitors to your site :)

It works by crawling your site and building the sitemaps dynamically. It is web-based so nothing needs to be downloaded or installed (th files it generates just need to be passed to google or uploaded to the root of your site. The free version is limited to 500 pages

  • I second that...I run xml-sitemaps.com on my sites, it's very simple to use and pretty flexible (especially when you use URL parameters to control things like navigation menus, which really don't impact a site map but might create a breadcrumb, for example) Stephan Hovnanian about 7 years ago
  • Interesting. But I'm looking for a visual site map application. Not one understood by search engines, but easy understandable and visualized for human beings :) Jens Hedqvist about 7 years ago

Jens,

I am building a sitemap service for my website to offer out. It currently builds sitemaps and automatically submits them to msn, live, ask.com, google, yahoo etc....

If you let me know exactly what you are after I could upgrade the service to cater for your needs if you like??

[link text]My site is called Nashprojects.com1 the sitemap service isnt complete at the moment so its a good time to get in and tell me what you want. A Contact us page is on the site and you can email me directly....

My service isnt limited to a number of pages at all... i could quite easily build a sitemap for 10k plus.... so the size isnt an issue...

Hope to hear from you.

If you're using a CMS, you should look to see if there are plugins/modules for such a purpose. Drupal (my CMS of choice) has a pretty decent module for it and it takes the headache of having to have a third-party service scrape your pages for relevant information (since it's being pulled direct-from-source).

Food for thought.

  • Are you talking about the XML-sitemap module? It only gives me XML. I'm interested in a visual (like box-illustrated) representation. An alternative of building a site-map in say Omnigraffle, Illustrator or other desktop based application. Jens Hedqvist almost 7 years ago
