Hi! I'm trying to organize hundreds of bookmarks, feeds, original content, images...with the primary purpose of putting all this in one place, then to share some with clients. Where do I start? Is a WordPress blog a good tool for this? Maybe I convert my Firefox bookmarks to Diigo or Delicious to add to blog? Any advice? Thanks in advance!!!

It doesn't matter what tools you use, but a WP blog would be a good one. What really matters is that you have a good Information Architecture.

To organise all your digital content, you first need to consider very carefully how to categorise it (choose no more than 30 categories) and tag it (have no more than 100 tags) then everything can be added to your WP blog in a category and tagged for cross referencing. You might consider custom post types to further structure your content.

Again, it's not the tools you use, but if you have the patience and organisation skills to develop a properly organised structure for your items.

Work out the structure on paper first, then look at how much content you have in each category - if you have thousands of links, then using a link tool would make more sense, so yes, just use delicious and link it to your blog.

Good luck!

  • I know your pain, I've tried all the tools, everything buckets, database, specialist organisers and it all comes down to being organised in the first place. A few categories and a strict number of tags will force you to choose wisely about where a bit of data belongs... Tony Crockford over 8 years ago

I suggest Evernote, which will enable you to manage numerous entries in different notebooks and enable you to tag based on your information architecture. You can manage what notebooks are shared. The system support numerous media types.

CRAIG... Just downloaded Evernote for pc and iPhone. This looks less daunting than designing a blog...and loving the "Read it Later" (don't always have internet connection) and searching capabilities. Will follow up soon how this is working for me.

TONY... I'll put pencil to paper before I continue tagging...set some boundaries. Yes, it IS painful! ;-)
