Had to make this for a class.

My nav panel shows fine in Firefox. But the active link area in the nav panel is a few pixels lower than the link words when viewed in Internet Explorer and Chrome.

How can I fix this?

Try taking the float off of the anchors in the list, the list items are already floated so the links don't need to be. You could also use padding to set the height of the links instead of line-height and see if that helps

You have a bigger problem in WebKit in that the links don't work at all because your header image's padding obscures them completely. Your header div needs explicit dimensions, as does the image it contains.
