I have a couple issues with IE7.

  1. It doesn't seem to be listening to the :first-child pseudo selector
  2. It also wraps the navigation down a line when it shouldn't.

To fix the issue, just give your clearing div a height of 0.

That will remove the line-break and fix both problems. The first-child selector is being listened to in IE7

  • Well I tried giving the clearing div a height of 0 but then it breaks a lot of other elements on the site. (check out the about page). I also don't see the first child selector working on the black navigation. thoughts? Patrick Rauland over 7 years ago
  • Use a unique class name (or a class name that can be reused on other clearning divs that need height 0) such as clear-thin that sets the height to 0. I fixed it in my IE7 by adding height:0 to that clearing div. IE dev toolbar applies new css rules as inline style declarations, which is why I wouldn't have seen any other issues. I did not see the issue where the first-child selector is being ignored danwellman over 7 years ago
