I am making an email template.
The designer wanted a background image with rounded corners, drop shadow and a green gradient.
They want to put text over this background image and position it at will in this email template.
They want this email to work in every email client including gmail, outlook 2007, and entourage.
So far I have come up with the answer, if I want this email to work in every email client, I cannot have a background image with text over it.
What do you think?

I have actually successfully done this. Not sure if it's because of the time that has passed since you asked about it.
My only issue is being able to print. I've done exactly what your client is asking: background image with text over-top. But since I need it as a coupon type e-mail, it needs to be able to print, and background images apparently do not print on default.
