I'm having a problem with a drop down box in IE 7 (and presumably 6, although that's untested). It's positioned incorrectly, and doesn't have the border, etc, that it should have. It works fine in every other browser, and IE 8.

I discovered the solution to this problem: the case of the tag. Using SELECT for the tag worked, but using select did not.

Here's some links.
The original HTML, with the incorrectly positioned select: http://test.mabwi.com/SelectBug.html

The new HTML, with a correctly positioned select, only difference being capitalization of the tag: http://test.mabwi.com/SelectBug-Fix.htm

The field in question is the title field

Could you post a demo page so other people can confirm this weird behaviour?

The case of the tag shouldn't really influence how it works. In earlier years people wrote HTML in all caps, but with the introduction of XHTML (which is case-sensitive) most people switched to lowercase HTML.
