While using fixed width select tag , there is one bug in IE. When the content of the option in the select tag is more than the width of select tag its hide. Its working fine in fire fox , not in IE.

Yep, that's how it works if you ask me. It' standard browser behaviour, I dont think you can change that.

You could try to change the width on :focus or :active or with JavaScript but then the width the entire element - not just the dropped down elements - will become wider.

  • I can verify Jens statement. This is how IE behaves and without JavaScript there is no way to mimic the behaviour of more competent UAs. To set width to auto on mouse over or on focus would probably make ur UI "jump" and thats not an option either I guess. This is one of the reasons that label and control in side-by-side is discouraged as UI pattern for form controls. anddoutoi about 8 years ago
