Over the last year or so a lot of companies are now doing videos that appear like animations... the backgrounds tend to be consistent and are coupled with some really smooth animation and a slick voice-over.

Assuming you have the skills to draw like these guys, an imagination and to do a decent voice-over; what software would one need to orchestrate the video, combine all the components and bring it to "life"?

When you ask the companies behind it, they claim these are "trade secrets", which is fine, but I doubt they use proprietary software to achieve the above videos, especially since the resulting product from two different companies is similar.
