We are expanding our online shop to the UK. We have a drop-down to select a country for shipping and billing address. However when it comes to the UK, I get really confused. United Kingdom, Great Britain, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, etc... so many names!

Which one should be in the drop-down list for billing/shipping?

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland[13] (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain) is a sovereign state ......

The above is from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom.

U.K. is made up of four constituent countries: England, Scotland, and Wales on the island of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland.

Hence for shipping address, the 'official' country is always U.K. Same goes for phone number, the country code is +44 for England, Scotland etc.

Depends on which of the countries you plan to ship to. England? Scotland? Wales? Northern Ireland? Republic of Ireland? Usually United Kingdom is a safe option.

  • We pretty much ship anywhere, we just don't want to have redundancy like showing both England and United Kingdom in the drop-down, right? So I'm not sure which countries to show and not to show in the list. Nathan about 7 years ago
