What software can view SGML files. I have some documentation files, in *.sgml format. If i open in some text editor it opens along with the embedded meta data, without interpreting it.

Using which viewer can i view these sgml files - On windows as well as Linux?

thank you,

SGML is the predecessor of HTML
SGML, per se, only means "this file contains various <tags>"

So, in a worst case scenario, you should be able to read them out with a text editor.

The only other SGML application (that's how they call languages with <tags> and dtds) over than html/xml that I know is still being used, is docbook.

OpenOffice has support for it, but your mileage may vary.

(the first tag you read in the .sgml file with a text editor should anyway give you some serious hint about the kind of data you got served)
