Here is my page:

I have an unordered list that has is using a tabbed navigation with a shadow graphic behind it. I want the 1st li to be in front of the 2nd li in the z-index and so forth so the shadow can be on top of the next tab to give it depth, but I don't know how to to do that without making it absolute positioning. When I make it absolute positioning, the unordered list collapses.

Does anyone know how to do that?

I answered my own question. For some reason, I was under the impression that z-index only works on absolute positioning. Oops!

You could have just used css sprites for this instead of worrying about z-index, just by editing the original images to look as though one tab were casting a shadow onto the next.

The methods I can see on your demo make the bounding boxes for each link a little strange.
