I've got a very simple site -- a few content pages and an image gallery. The design for the gallery calls for multiple albums, with thumbnails on the image page. We want an extremely simple, clean design.

My first instinct is drupal, because that's how I've been building my sites lately, but making it really easy to use is actually a fair bit of work for a simple site like this. WordPress generally has slightly better usability. Is there a great plugin for handling galleries? Any other suggestions?

Look into Zenphoto, a really nice, easy to use, easy to customize photo gallery, which can also do content pages (similar to WordPress Pages).

Honestly I've always been less-than-impressed with the NextGEN gallery. I like what it gets at, but the implementation just seems a bit clunky to me.

In one of my Wordpress sites I've added a plugin that takes any native image gallery that you upload and turns it into a lightbox gallery. I've found this to be much nicer for my tastes.

Lightbox 2

I think the reason that I prefer to use WP's native gallery handling is that I can edit it within the post itself, without having to go and create the gallery and then go back to the post and insert it....everything is handled automagically. WP automatically will handle the thumbnail generation, and the lightbox adds a nice touch.
